What are Animated Banner Ads?

Animated banner ads are a unique and engaging way to capture prospects’ attention. They are a digital form of advertisement typically displayed on websites and social media, using animation, graphics, and motion to convey a brand’s message. These often include eye-catching visuals incorporating moving text, rotating images, or short video clips.

The Key Features of Animated Banner Ads

The following are the elements that we usually see in an animated banner ad:

  • Movement: This can include fading images, animated transitions, or sliding text that creates visual interest.
  • Interactivity: You can find animated banner ads encouraging user interaction, such as hovering to reveal more products or information or asking them to click for additional content.
  • Calls-to-Action (CTA): As with any other advertising, an animated banner has to have CTAs to have the viewers do what you want them to do. You can lead them to your website, sign up for a service, or get more information.
  • The Benefits of Animated Banner Ads
  • If you’re still in doubt about using animated banner ads for your business, here are a few benefits that would change your mind:
  • Increased Engagement: Movement and animation can definitely attract attention when compared to static banners.
  • Storytelling Potential: We know how powerful storytelling is in marketing and advertising. An animated banner ad lets you convey more complex messages and tell a story in a short and engaging way.
  • Higher Click-Through Rates: Research shows that animated banners usually perform better than static versions in terms of engagement and click-through rates.

A Few Tips When Creating Animated Banner Ads

Designing animated banner ads means creating the right balance between creativity and functionality. To maximize their effectiveness, take note of the following:

  1. Keep your message clear and straightforward. Write concise and easy-to-understand text.
  2. Optimize load times. Compress files to prevent your ad from hanging or lagging.
  3. Follow platform specifications. Stick to the guidelines for each platform you place your ad in.
  4. Loop smoothly. Create seamless and non-distracting loops.
  5. Shorten your ads to under 15 seconds.
  6. Do not overload the ads with too much text.
  7. Special effects are good but do not overdo them.
  8. Ensure mobile-friendliness.
  9. Don’t include audio and other sounds.

And, as promised, here are animated banner ad examples created by our talented Penji design team:

AI Health

ai health animated banner ad

This animated banner ad for Stanford University is an excellent example of simplicity that blends well with functionality. It uses non-serif fonts in white against a red background that makes the text stand out. It has a silhouette of a crest with symbols typically used in medicine. The spheres were animated to pop one after another, forming a brain shape that denotes health.

EZ Marketing

ez markeitng animated banner ad

This is an interesting example of an animated banner ad designed for a company called EZ Marketing. The first thing you’ll notice is the static brand name at the top of the banner. Only the information, such as their services and contact details, is moving. This is an excellent technique, as the name won’t be out of sight of the viewers, adding to its positive recall performance. The addition of a small illustration at the bottom left corner adds a touch of creativity.

InnovateED

Another Penji work made for Stanford University is this animated web banner design for the brand’s Innovations in Education Technology courses. It uses various icons that pertain to education, such as a globe, a light bulb, cogs, and many others. These have several elements that are animated, and like the one for EZ Marketing, not everything is moving. This is to avoid a cluttered and busy effect that distracts viewers.

Tort Express

Here, we have two animated banner ad examples from the brand Tort Express. The first shows a dark blue banner with animations on the right side flashing with a different photo each time. This allows you to showcase various products without boring your viewers. Ensure that the images you use are of high quality and that your text is few but weighty. In addition, don’t forget to add call-to-action buttons that will get them to do your desired action after hooking them in.

Another version of this animated banner ad from Tort Express shows the exact images moving from right to left. It moves slowly to allow viewers a closer and better look at the photos. It uses a dark blue background like the first one, but this has a silhouette of an image that adds a human touch to the overall design.

Rapsha

This web banner uses minimal design elements but still makes an impactful effect. The animated text transitions smoothly into the brand icons to show what the brand is capable of. It uses a grey color scheme against a white background, highlighting the message even further. The blue color used for “starts here” is an excellent emphasis that excites and builds anticipation.

Generic Example

This generic animated web banner is created by our Penji designers to showcase their skills in making these designs. It is an animation of geometric shapes forming a computer and a human user. The shapes all fall from above to form the whole image until we see a person working on a computer. You can use this to inspire your animated web banner and imagine your brand using one of these.
